Gaels Fall to UQTR in Regular Season Finale, Set for OUA Quarterfinals

The Queen's Gaels men's hockey team closed out the regular season with a 3-0 loss to the UQTR Patriotes on Saturday afternoon at Colisée de Trois-Rivières. The defeat snapped a six-game winning streak for Queen's, which now finishes the season at 22-6-0 and prepares for the OUA playoffs.

UQTR took control early, scoring just 36 seconds into the game as Conor Frenette capitalized on a setup from Pier-Olivier Roy. The Patriotes doubled their lead late in the first period when Mathis Cloutier found the back of the net.

The Gaels had opportunities to claw back into the game, earning consecutive power plays in the second period but failing to convert. UQTR added an insurance marker in the third, shutting down any Queen's comeback attempt.

Goaltender Christian Purboo (Arts & Science) made 27 saves in the loss, keeping the Gaels within striking distance despite a lack of offensive support.

With the regular season wrapped up, Queen's will now turn its attention to the OUA quarterfinals, where the team will face the winner of the Ottawa (3) vs. Ontario Tech (6) first-round series in a best-of-three matchup. As the higher seed, the Gaels will have home-ice advantage for two of the three games.

The Gaels will open their OUA quarterfinal series at the Memorial Centre, with dates and times to be announced. Fans can catch all the action live on OUA.tv or secure tickets through the Queen's Gaels website above
