On the second night of their road trip in the nation's capital, Queen's Women's Basketball faced off against the No.1 ranked Carleton Ravens on Saturday night. Despite a strong showing, the Gaels came up short, as they were edged out by the undefeated Ravens in yet another tight battle.
Carleton quickly took a 7-0 lead, but Queen's responded with a 10-1 run, sparked by back-to-back three-pointers from Ally Smith, to take an 18-17 lead after the first quarter.Â
In the second, Carleton regained control, outscoring the Gaels 19-13, with Dorcas Buisa and Kyana-Jade Poulin leading the charge. Despite six points each from Amy Hagman and Mikayla McFarlane, Queen's trailed 36-31 at the half.
In the third quarter, Carleton extended their lead to as much as nine points, but Queen's kept the game close, staying within single digits and closing the period with a 51-46 deficit.
However, in the final frame, the Ravens managed to maintain their undefeated title, keeping the Gaels at bay as they stretched their lead to double digits, en route to a 72-63 victory.Â
Despite the tough loss, Queen's had a strong individual showing with four Gaels reaching double digits in scoring. Hagman led the charge with an impressive 20-point performance, while McFarlane delivered a double-double, recording 13 points and 10 rebounds.Â
The Gaels continue their four-game road trip as they hit the road for North Bay, Ont., where they will face the Nipissing Lakers on Friday, Feb. 7, with tip-off scheduled for 6 p.m.
