Queen's Women's Hockey stays on home ice this Friday night as they face off against the York Lions at the Memorial Centre.
The Gaels came out flying, hemming York in and generating Grade-A chances right from puck drop. The Lions pushed back with a few rush opportunities, but Queen's kept their foot on the gas, dictating the pace and setting the tone early.
The Gaels found their spark midway through the second with a clutch shorthanded marker. Rhae Thomas (Arts & Sciences) picked off a pass and tore down the ice on a breakaway, sticking with the play to bury her own rebound after the initial shot was turned aside. Sophie Hudson (Chemical Engineering) earned the lone helper, and Queen's carried a 1–0 lead into the third with momentum firmly on their side.
Queen's wasted no time padding their advantage in the final frame. Just minutes in, Jada Wood (Arts & Sciences) sliced through the zone and snapped home a beauty to make it 2–0, with assists from Mikayla Cranney (Arts & Sciences) and Taylor Eastwood (Commerce). Cranney then delivered the dagger, breaking loose on a feed from Sara Di Filippo (Concurrent Education) and Eastwood – for her second point of the night.
The Gaels sealed a dominant 3–0 victory, capped by a stellar performance from Emma Tennant (Mechanical Engineering), who shut the door with 24 saves to earn the shutout.
