Queen's Women's Basketball's Friday night road tilt against the Ottawa Gee-Gees went down to the wire before the host Gee-Gees pulled away with less than two minutes to play in the fourth quarter, and the Gaels were edged 60-53.
After Queen's opened the game on a 7-0 run, the two OUA East Division contenders traded leads, and were never more than a couple possessions in front, until Ottawa pulled away late in the seven-point win.
Brooke Hussey (Kinesiology) led the Gaels' offence, finishing with a game-high 19 points in the loss.
Mikayla McFarlane (Kinesiology) was solid for Queen's on both ends of the court, falling just short of a double-double, recording 12 points and eight rebounds.
With the loss, Queen's saw their record fall to 13-4 on the season while the No. 5 ranked Gee-Gees improved to 16-2 after the win. The Gaels remain in third place in the OUA East, behind Ottawa and the undefeated Carleton Ravens, and hold the fourth best record in the conference.Â
Queen's closes out their weekend road trip in the nation's capital taking on the No. 1 ranked Ravens Saturday at 6 p.m.
