Queen's Men's Basketball will play for a national championship after defeating the Ottawa Gee-Gees 85-77 in the U SPORTS Men's Final 8 Basketball Championship semifinals Saturday night in Quebec City, Que.
After a close start to the game, the Gaels fell behind by seven points early in the second quarter, the biggest lead Ottawa would hold during the game. Queen's would then go on a massive 26-5 run to end the quarter and take a 14-point lead into half time. The second half was back and forth, but the Gaels held on for the comfortable win in the semifinal.
Cole Syllas (Kingston, Ont.) continued his dominant play in the post-season, recording a big double double while leading all players with 25 points and 18 rebounds.
Four other Gaels scored in double digits in the win, including
Luka Syllas (Kingston, Ont.) with 20 points, while adding seven rebounds, and
Fofo Adetogun (Regina, Sask.) with 11 points.
Queen's bench was strong in the win, outscoring the Gee-Gees bench 28-21 with Michael Kelvin (Kingston, Ont.) recording 13 points and Cam Bett (Staines-upon-Thames, UK) 11 points off the bench.

The Gaels finished the game shooting 39 per cent from the floor and 37 per cent from three-point range, compared to 40 per cent from the floor and 31 per cent from beyond the arc for Ottawa.
Queen's will end their season playing for the W.P. McGee Trophy Saturday in Quebec City. The Gaels will take on the winner of the second semifinal between the Dalhousie Tigers and the host Laval Rouge et Or, with a chance to earn the first national championship in program history.
