KINGSTON, Ont. (March 4, 2024) – Queen's Women's Volleyball earned two major awards from the OUA for the 2023-24 season.
The conference announced Monday that
Hannah Duchesneau was named a co-Player of the Year while
Ryan Ratushniak was named Coach of the Year. Duchesneau will share the Player of the Year honours with Sara Rohr from Brock.
Duchesneau (Sharon, Ont.), who was also named an OUA First Team All-Star on Monday, led the Gaels in a number of statistical categories on offence. The outside hitter finished fifth in the conference in total kills, with 241, kills/set, at 3.60, and hitting percentage, at .288.
"It is great to see Hannah recognized as the OUA Player of the Year!" said Queen's Women's Volleyball Head Coach
Ryan Ratushniak. "She had an amazing season with so many great performances. As an outside hitter she had an excellent attack efficiency which is hard to accomplish in that position. Hannah was a great on court leader this season and is very deserving of this award!"
Duchesneau also contributed 19 serving aces, 15 assists, 113 digs, and 30 total blocks this past season. This is the second straight season Duchesneau was named an OUA All-Star after earning OUA All-Rookie recognition in 2021-22, and First Team recognition in 2022-23.
Ratushniak was named Coach of the Year after leading Queen's to a program-best 18-2 regular season record in his seventh season on the bench. Under Ratushniak, the Gaels finished second in the OUA standings and advanced to the Quigley Cup semifinals.
Queen's also produced three OUA All-Stars this past season.
