Allison Westbroek - Varsity Clubs Student-Athlete Leadership Award
James Paddle-Grant

Allison Westbroek, Aidan Westdal named Varsity Clubs Student-Athlete Leadership Award recipients at 2023-24 Colour Awards

I've had the distinct pleasure of working closely with the many student-athletes and leaders who provide tremendous contributions to their Club programs through the course of a competitive season and the academic year. Indeed, it is one of the great joys to experience the passion and talents of our students not only in the competitive field of play, but also behind the scenes. It is no easy task to single out the contributions of just one or two students across 26+ varsity club programs, and I congratulate and thank so many that have provided incredible service to their sport and fellow student-athletes.

Early in the Fall term, I learned that the prior leader of this club had decided to move to another institution for post-graduate studies, leaving a gap in the leadership and coaching of the program. Within a week, I had two student-leaders answer the call, with an enthusiasm and willingness to take the role on. They came to the table with ideas, energy, and all the right questions and answers. They each found a voice and role in leading the club and demonstrated a dedication despite very busy academic and personal schedules in their final year. They were also truly a joy to work with and were resilient and creative along the way. I had a lot of fun working with them, and they both seemed to genuinely enjoy the experience and leadership challenge as well.

I am proud to present the co-recipients of this year's Varsity Club Student Leadership Award to Nordic Ski duo Aidan Westdal and Allison (Ally) Westbroek.
