KINGSTON, Ont. (Feb. 10, 2024) - Queen's Women's Hockey fell to the Nipissing Lakers with a final score of 3-2 in overtime.
The Gaels came out fierce in the first period, with
Sam Wood scoring a goal for Queen's just six minutes into the period. A couple of minutes later,
Emma McKnight scored another goal for Queen's, giving the Gaels a two-goal lead. However, with just over a minute left in the first period, the Lakers scored a goal, ending the period with a score of 2-1 for Queen's.
The second period started with a bang, with a goal from the Lakers just under three minutes into the period. After many powerplay chances and close goal opportunities, the period ended with a score of 2-2, tying up the game.
After a close third period, the game ended with a 2-2 score and forced the teams into overtime. Nipissing scored a quick goal, finishing with a 3-2 score, coming on top of the Gaels.
Emma Tennant, who played in net, had a total of 31 shots on goal, letting in three.

After today's game, the Gaels' overall standing will fall to 12-13-0.
The women will be back in action on Sunday, February 11, where they will face the Toronto Varsity Blues in Kingston.
