Queen's Women's Basketball Cruises to 90-33 Victory Over Algoma

Sault Ste. Marie, ON (Nov. 8, 2024) – Queen's Women's Basketball improved to 2-2 on the season with a decisive 90-33 victory over the Algoma Thunderbirds at the George Leach Centre, extending their undefeated streak against Algoma to 11 games.

The Gaels set the tone early, jumping out to a lead and showcasing a relentless defensive effort that limited Algoma to a mere 14.3% shooting from the field. Queen's outrebounded Algoma 55-33 and capitalized on turnovers, scoring 36 points off Algoma's 23 turnovers.

Leading the way for Queen's was Ally Smith (Kinesiology), who tallied 14 points on 4-for-11 shooting, including two three-pointers. Haley Barbieri (Arts & Science) contributed a well-rounded performance with 10 points, five rebounds, and five assists, while Brooke Hussey (Kinesiology) came off the bench to add nine points and five rebounds.

From deep, Queen's hit 10 of 32 attempts, led by Bella Gaudet (Commerce), who connected on two of her four three-point tries and added nine points and seven rebounds.

Queen's defense shone, limiting Algoma's offense to just 10 points in the paint while recording 24 second-chance points. The Gaels also shot an impressive 85.7% from the free-throw line, converting 18 of 21 attempts.

The Gaels will return to action on the road on Nov. 15 against the Waterloo Warriors, where they look to build on this strong performance and maintain momentum as they advance in the OUA season.
