Queen's Men's Soccer Defeated 3-2 in Nail-Biting Match Against TMU Bold

(05/10/24) - Kingston, ON.  In a frustrating loss, the Queen's Men's Soccer team are defeated 3-2 by the TMU Bold late Saturday afternoon at their home field of Richardson Stadium.  Spectators are left on the edge of their seats watching as the boys make a come back in the second half from a 3-0 trail to the Bold, although are unable to close the score gap to tie the match.

This game was no match for the weak, as both teams demonstrated strong offensive and defensive abilities, and battled until the end in seven additional minutes.  The first half saw two goals scored by the Bold against the Gaels, and it seemed as though the Gaels were struggling to make plays for themselves.

Nevertheless, midfielder, no. 10 Andrea Gortana (School of Business) was able to find a pocket and attempt to score on the Bold net, unfortunately the ball flew just high of the net hitting the post.

The Gaels did not let their 2-0 trail after the first half defeat them, as they came back out in the second with a fire different from the first 45 minutes of the match.  Both teams chased each other up and down the turf in a battle for ball possession, though Queen's shifted the tone of the game by maintaining control on Bold territory for the majority of the second half.  With the Gaels putting up a tough fight against the Bold, they were able to rack up an additional 8 chances at net.

8 minutes left in regulation time, the Gaels build momentum and with that, create the space for defender, no. 24 Ian Ferguson (Applied Sciences) to score, assisted by Gortana.

The Gaels, although down by two goals, gain dominance on the field over the Bold by keeping pressure on the opposition side.  Four minutes later the Gaels produce another goal, shot by Gortana and assisted by forward, no. 9 Matt Ciavarro (School of Business), making the score 3-2 with 12 minutes left in the second half.

The game became a true nail-biter as tensions rose between the teams. The Bold had not maintained the same dominance displayed in the first half, while the Gaels saw opportunity to take back the match for themselves.  Unfortunately for the Gaels, the ball could not find the back of the net one last time, and they fall to the TMU Bold.

With this match, the Gaels now hold the season record of 2-5-3 and are seventh in the OUA East standings.  The Gaels next match is Sunday, October 6th, at 3:15PM, at Richardson Stadium, where they will kick off against the Nipissing Lakers who currently hold a 5-2-2 record.
