Queen's Women's Hockey won against the York Lions in overtime in the second game of their doubleheader this weekend at the Memorial Centre in Kingston, Ontario.
Both teams played hard and aggressive, each accumulating many penalties. With four minutes left in the first period, York scored a goal, giving them a 1-0 lead heading into the second period.
The Gaels fought back hard in the second period, with a goal by Rebecca Thompson halfway through the period. With just over five minutes left, York scored a second goal, but Emma Michalicka answered it a couple of minutes later, ending the second period with a score of 2-2.Â
After a hard-fought third period, no goals were scored, and overtime ensued. While there were many close scoring opportunities, Kelsey Dunn scored the game-winning goal on a 2-on-1 breakaway with Alyson Reeves, finishing the game with a 3-2 score.
After this game, the Gaels' overall standing will rise to 11-10-0, and the women will be back in action on Saturday, January 27, where they will face the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks at the Memorial Centre in Kingston.
