KINGSTON, Ont. (January 13, 2024) - Queen's Men's Hockey defeated RMC Paladins in the first game of the new year.
The first period consisted of penalties charged to both teams, a testament to the standing rivalry between Queen's and RMC. After a 0-0 finish to the first period, Derek Hamilton popped one in the back of the Paladins' net at the beginning of the second. RMC answered that goal just thirty seconds later, tying up the game. Halfway through the second period, Hamilton scored his second goal of the night, putting the Gaels ahead. With just over six minutes left, Daniel Michaud scored, ending the period with a score of 3-1 for Queen's.
The third period started with a bang again, with Dalton Duhart scoring the fourth and final goal for Queen's. After a scruff against the Paladin's bench causing a broken door and a 45-minute delay, the Paladins scored their second goal for the night with eight minutes left in the game.
The final score of the game was 4-2 for Queen's, bringing their overall standings to 12-8-0.
Christian Purboo, who played in goal, had 24 shots on net, only letting in two.
The men are back in action Friday, January 19, where they will take on the Toronto Varsity Blues at the Memorial Centre in Kingston.
