Gaels fall in tough loss to Guelph Gryphons

KINGSTON, Ont. (Sept. 30, 2023) - Queen's Men's Rugby fell to Guelph Gryphons 34-17 Saturday afternoon at Nixon Field.

Jacob Merkur and James Webb scored tries for Queen's, and Webb also scored two conversion kicks and a penalty conversion. 

Guelph opened with a try in the first thirty seconds of the game, and Queen's returned with a try and a convert twenty minutes later to take a 7-5 lead.

Four minutes later, the Gryphons put another try on the board and followed up with another two tries before Queen's answered with a late try, resulting in a 24-14 score for Guelph at the half. 

Fifteen minutes into the second half, Queen's scored a penalty convert, cutting the score to 24-17 for Guelph. Late in the game, the Gryphons put up another two tries, ending with a final score of 34-17 for the Guelph.

After today's match, the Gaels' record dropped to 2-1. Queen's Men's Rugby will be back in action on Oct. 7, 2023, taking on the Brock Badgers in St. Catherines, Ont.
