Gaels blank Ontario Tech to cap strong opening weekend

KINGSTON, Ont. (Sept. 3, 2023) - Queen's Women's Soccer capped their opening weekend of action in the 2023 season with a 2-0 win over the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks Sunday afternoon at Richardson Stadium.

The 2-0 win was the second straight by that tally for the Gaels and gave Queen's a 2-0-0 record to start the season. Kirstin Tynan (North Vancouver, B.C.) earned a second straight clean sheet to start the season and Leda Naihin (Markham, Ont.) scored a highlight reel goal in the win.

Lily Goss (Kingston, Ont.) opened the scoring for Queen's in the fifth minute and the Gaels would carry that one-goal lead into half time. After some fancy footwork on the left side of the field, Naihin fired from a difficult angle, picking out the top left corner and beating Ridgebacks' goalkeeper Alicia Chisholm for the score.

Two days after a two-save clean sheet against the Toronto Varsity Blues, Tynan recorded three saves for the clean sheet in the win on Saturday.

Queen's returns to action next weekend with one game. The Gaels will look to remain undefeated when they host the Carleton Ravens (1-0) Friday at Richardson Stadium.

Queen's is hosting the U SPORTS Women's Soccer Championship from Nov. 9-12 at Richardson Stadium. Ticket packages can be purchased on the Queen's Gaels Ticket website.
