KINGSTON, Ont. (Sept. 3, 2023) - Queen's Men's Soccer drew the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks 2-2 Sunday night at Richardson Stadium to earn another point on opening weekend. With the draw, the Gaels remained undefeated, their record moving to 0-0-2.
Queen's jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first half. In the fifth minute,
Matthew Ciavarro (Cambridge, Ont.) cut through the Ridgebacks' defence and found the back of the net to open the scoring for the Gaels with his third goal of the season.
Pablo Hempelmann-Perez (Toronto, Ont.) doubled Queen's lead in the 36th minute with a tremendous shot from distance and the Gaels held a two-goal lead at half time.
Ontario Tech would claw one back in the 57th minute and score the equalizer late in stoppage time.
Queen's finished the game with 13 shots, three on target, compared to seven shots, five on target for the Ridgebacks.
The Gaels return to action next weekend with a home-and-home series against the Carleton Ravens (1-0). Queen's hosts Carleton Friday night at Richardson Stadium before travelling to Ottawa, Ont. to take on the Ravens on Sunday afternoon.
