KINGSTON, Ont. (Sept 23, 2023) - Queen's Men's Soccer defeated the TMU Bold 3-0 at Richardson Stadium Saturday afternoon.
Coming off a big win against the Trent Excalibur a week prior, Queen's put on a great performance against TMU. The energy levels in the stadium were high, both on the field and in the stands, which set the tone for an electrifying match. With
Connor Adams (Richmond, B.C.) in net, the Gaels would register nine saves, while TMU would register 0.
In the 14th minute,
Andrea Gortana (Vaughan, Ont.) opened the scoring by tapping the ball in with an assist from
Matthew Ciavarro (Cambridge, Ont.). The players kept up their momentum and Ciavarro managed to squeak one in past the keeper, making it 2-0 at halftime.
In the second half
Pablo Hempelmann-Perez (Toronto, Ont.) placed himself in an optimal spot to get a rebound off the post before blasting it in, increasing Queen's lead to three.
Queen's would take on a more defensive role on the field for the rest of the game.
In the 59th minute, TMU earned a penalty kick, which Adams saved, eliciting cheers from the stands, where the 1993 Queen's Soccer alumni were watching. Adams saved a second penalty shot from TMU at the last minute of the game.
With the win, the Gaels' record improved to 2-3-2. Queen's Men's Soccer will return to action next weekend, visiting the Toronto Varsity Blues in Toronto, Ont. on Sunday, Oct 1st at 3:15 PM.
