Gaels cruise past UPEI to advance to Consolation Final at U SPORTS Final 8

Queen's Men's Basketball defeated the UPEI Panthers 93-68 Saturday afternoon in Halifax, N.S. to advance to the U SPORTS Men's Basketball Final 8 Consolation Final.

The Gaels controlled the game from the start, jumping out to a seven-point lead after the first quarter and never looking back. The team held a double-digit lead at half time and were never threatened in the second half on the way to their big win.

Five Queen's players scored in double digits in the win, led by Connor Keefe (Halifax, N.S.), who scored 15 points in his hometown.

Cam Bett (Staines-upon-Thames, England) added 15 points in the win while Michael Kelvin (Kingston, Ont.), Cole Syllas (Kingston, Ont.) and Scott Jenkins (Hamilton, Ont.) all scored 13 points.

The Gaels shot lights out all game long, finishing 48 per cent from the floor and 41 per cent from beyond the arc, while holding the Panthers to 38 per cent shooting from the floor and 20 per cent from three-point range.

With the win, Queen's will finish the National Championship tournament Sunday in the Consolation Final. The Gaels will take on the No. 6 seed UQAM Citadins Sunday at 11 a.m. EST.
