Queen's Women's Hockey completes comeback win over York at Memorial Centre

KINGSTON, Ont. (Feb. 3, 2023) - Queen's Women's Hockey took on the visiting York Lions at the Memorial Centre, and stole the show with a 5-3 comeback for the Gaels.

The first period started off with a goal for Queen's from Carys Collie, assisted by Kelsey Dunn and Alicia Juras. York answered that goal about a minute later, tying up the game. To take the lead, the Lions scored a second goal two minutes later, bringing the end of the first period to a 2-1 score for York.

Seven minutes into the second penalty, York was charged a penalty - Queen's capitalized on this, and Alyson Reeves scored 11 seconds into the powerplay, assisted by Alex Maw. Later in the period, York took two penalties, giving the Gaels a 3-on-5 powerplay. Sophie Hudson scored a power play goal, assisted by Charlotte Melindy, giving Queen's the lead. With just under two minutes left in the second period, Scout Watkins-Southward popped one in the back of York's net, assisted by Kennedy MacAlpine and Alex Maw, and the second period ended with a 4-2 lead for Queen's.

The Gaels kept the fire burning in the third period, where Alex Maw scored the fifth goal for Queen's five minutes in, assisted by Emma McKnight. York came back with a goal with three minutes left, which ended the game with a 5-3 score for Queen's.

Alex Maw closed out the game with three points. Lexi Giorgi finished the game with 22 saves.

After this game, Queen's overall standings rose to 6-8-5-4, and remain in third place in the OUA East Standings.
