Queen's Women's Basketball kicked off their weekend slate of games with a 76-68 win over the Guelph Gryphons on the road in Guelph, Ont. Friday night.
After a tight first quarter that saw the Gaels up two heading into the second, Queen's outscored the Gryphons by 14 points to take a 16-point lead. Guelph would go on a late run in the fourth quarter, but Queen's held them off for the eight-point win.
Four Gaels scored in double digits in the win, led by
Laura Donovan's 17 points. Donovan added three rebounds, three assists, and three steals.
Emma Weltz and
Julia Chadwick scored 15 points each while Bella Belvedere added 11 points. Chadwick recorded a double double, adding 13 rebounds to her 15 points.
Queen's outshot the Gryphons, finishing 42 per cent from the floor and 33 per cent from three-point range compared to 38 per cent from the floor and 31 per cent from three-point range for Guelph.
With the win, the Gaels improved their record to 16-1 and remain on top of the OUA East Division standings.Â
