KINGSTON, Ont. (Feb. 2, 2023) – Alex Robert buried the winner after a scramble in front of the net to give Queen's Men's Hockey a 2-1 overtime victory over the RMC Paladins in the 35th Carr-Harris Challenge Cup.

"Honestly it took me a couple seconds. I shot it, it was rolling over the RMC goalie's shoulder, and then once I scored I forgot what was going on," Robert said of his game-winning goal. "Everyone was rushing on the ice, all the fellas were completely smothering me. It was surreal."

Robert's goal came minutes after two massive saves by Queen's goalie Luke Richardson in the overtime. Richardson finished with 23 saves in the win.

"All season long our team, they do a good job at keeping things to the outside and not giving up a lot," Richardson said after the game. "But when something does squeek through them and it's a good scoring chance, I have to do my job. In overtime, it's must win for us, you can't afford to lose right now, I just did whatever I could to make a save"

After a scoreless first period, Dalton Duhart opened the scoring for Queen's early in the second period. Duhart walked in one-on-one with an RMC defenceman, making a move before firing a shot that beat the Paladins' goalie high glove side. Duhart's goal was assisted by Josh Curtis.

"It never gets old," Queen's Men's Hockey Head Coach Brett Gibson said of the feeling winning the Carr-Harris Cup. "The crowd was fantastic. It's alway seems to be the way, the RMC goalie makes 50 saves and we have to find a way to score a goal. It seems to be a theme in the Carr-Harris Cup. To see Alex Robert get it, he's a kid that comes to work every single day. He deserves that goal."

With the win, Queen's improved their record in the Carr-Harris Cup to 22-11-2. Their record now stands at 11-11-2 this season and the team sits seventh in the OUA East Division standings.
