Gaels edge TMU in last game of regular season

Queen's Women's Hockey ended the regular season on a winning note, edging the TMU Bold 2-1 in Toronto, Ont. Saturday night.

With the win, the Gaels will finish third in the OUA East Division standings with a 13-10-4 record.

After a scoreless first period, Queen's netted two early goals in the second period. Sarah Campbell got Queen's on the board just 38 seconds into the frame with a goal assisted by Emma McKnight. Then less than 30 seconds later, Alex Maw doubled the Gaels' lead with a goal assisted by Rebecca Thompson.

The Bold would cut Queen's lead in half midway through the third period, but that was as close as they would get as the Gaels' held on for the big win.

Vanessa Campeau was solid in net for Queen's in the win, recording 32 saves including some key stops near the end of the game to preserve the team's one-goal lead. Queen's finished with 22 shots on net against TMU.

The OUA will release the playoff schedule early next week.
