Queen's Women's Basketball edged the host Nipissing Lakers 59-53 Friday night in North Bay, Ont. to secure the top seed in the OUA East Division heading into the playoffs.
With the win, the Gaels' record improved to 20-1, now two games up on the Carleton Ravens with just one game remaining in the regular season.
After the Lakers jumped out to a five-point lead in the first quarter, Queen's stormed back to take a two-point lead at half time. The Gaels grew their lead to 12 points after three quarters and held on for the six-point win over Nipissing.
Two Gaels socred in double digits in the win with
Laura Donovan pouring in a team-high 13 points and
Julia Chadwick adding 11 points. Chadwick fell just three rebounds shy of a double double, pulling down seven in the win.
Bridget Mulholland grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds for Queen's.
The Gaels bench came up big in the win as well, outscoring Nipissing's bench 18-1.
Queen's Women's Basketball will close out their regular season tomorrow night, Saturday, Feb. 18, at 6 p.m. against the Laurentian Voyageurs in Sudbury, Ont. Watch the game on
