KINGSTON, Ont. (Feb. 10, 2023) - Queen's Women's Hockey scored three goals in the first period on their way to a 4-2 win over the Laurier Golden Hawks Friday night at the Memorial Centre.
The win improved the Gaels' record to 12-9-3-1, with Queen's currently four points up on TMU for third place in the OUA East Division standings.
Kelsey Dunn opened the scoring for Queen's with a goal just four minutes into the game, with assists going to
Logan Biggs and
Emma McKnight.
Scout Watkins-Southward doubled the Gaels' lead midway through the first frame with a power play goal assisted by
Quinn Johnston and
Sarah Campbell.
And Campbell added a goal late in the first period, with assists to
Mallory Thornhill and
Sophie Hudson, to give the Gaels' a three-goal lead.
Laurier got one back before the period was out, with Elle Spencer scoring to cut Queen's lead to two-goals.
The Golden Hawks continued their comeback with another goal by Spencer midway through the second period to pull to within one of the Gaels.
But
Alyson Reeves cemented the win for Queen's midway through the third period, scoring a goal to restore the Gaels' two-goal lead with assists to Hudson and
Alex Maw.
Vanessa Campeau finished with 23 saves for Queen's in the win.
Queen's is back on the ice tomorrow, Saturday, Feb. 11 at 7:30 p.m., hosting the Western Mustangs at the Memorial Centre to close out their weekend home series.
