Queen's Women's Hockey fell to the Western Mustangs on Saturday evening at the Kingston Memorial Centre.
The game started slow, with both teams playing competitively and strongly. The first period consisted of a few penalties and a great save from Lexi Giorgi, ending the first period with a score of 0-0.
The second period started out similarly to the first, with equal opportunities for both teams and penalties as evidence of an intense game. Within the last three minutes of the game, Western put one in the back of the net, finishing the period off with a score of 1-0.Â
Queen's fought back hard in the third period, and the Mustangs scored another goal. Queen's answered the goal a minute later with a goal by Rebecca Thompson, assisted by Emma McKnight and Shelby Sly, bringing the score to 2-1 for Western. With five minutes left in the game, the Mustangs scored their third goal, closing the game out with a 3-1 score.Â
Lexi Giorgi finished the game with 23 saves.
After this game, Queen's overall standings dropped to 7-10-5-4, remaining in third place.
