KINGSTON, Ont. (Nov. 3, 2023) - Queen's Women's Basketball got off to a winning start to their 2023-24 regular season, defeating the Laurentian Voyageurs 72-45 Friday night at the Athletics and Recreation Centre (ARC).
Haley Barbieri (Vaughan, Ont.) led the Gaels offence off the bench, finishing with a game-high 14 points in 20 minutes in Queen's 27-point win.
Julia Chadwick (Ottawa, Ont.) and first-year player
Katrina Renon (Ottawa, Ont.) each added nine points and six rebounds in the win, while
Mikayla McFarlane (Kingston, Ont.), also coming off the bench, grabbed a game-high nine rebounds.
The Gaels entire bench was strong Friday night, outscoring the Voyageurs' bench 43-19.
Queen's out-shot Laurentian, finishing 40 per cent from the floor and 45 per cent from three-point range, while holding the Voyageurs to 32 per cent shooting from the floor and 20 per cent from three-point range.
The Gaels, now 1-0 after the season-opening win, will close out their season-opening weekend against the Nipissing Lakers Saturday at 6 p.m. at the ARC.
