KINGSTON, Ont. (Oct. 5, 2023) – Queen's Men's Soccer extended their winning streak to four games with a 6-0 win over their crosstown rivals, the RMC Paladins Thursday afternoon at Richardson Stadium.
The win came on Queen's Soccer's Kick for the Cure Game initiative. Queen's Men's Soccer
doubled their fundraising goal in the initiative.
Andrea Gortana (Vaughan, Ont.) led the way offensively for the Gaels, recording two goals. Gortana opened the scoring for Queen's in the fourth minute before adding a second goal early in the second half, in the 49
th minute.
Also scoring for Queen's were
Pablo Hempelmann-Perez (Toronto, Ont.) in the 22
nd minute,
Matthew Ciavarro (Cambridge, Ont.) on a penalty kick in the 26
th minute,
Ian Ferguson (Kingston, Ont.) in the 39
th minute, and
Samuel Asenuga (London, Ont.) in the 79
th minute.
Ciavarro is now third in the OUA in goal scoring with nine on the season, while Hempelmann-Perez is tied for fourth with seven.
Anand Sanchir (Richmond Hill, Ont.) recorded three saves for the clean sheet for Queen's.
With the win, the Gaels improved their record to 4-3-2 on the season. Queen's currently sits in third place in the OUA East Division standings with 14 points.
The Gaels will return to the field next weekend, when they host the Trent Excalibur on Saturday, Oct. 14 at 3:15 p.m. at Richardson Stadium.
