Queen's Men's Hockey opened their season with a big 7-1 win over the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks Thursday night in Oshawa, Ont.
Nolan Hutcheson (Kingston, Ont.) led the Gaels offensively, scoring four goals and adding an assist in the six-goal win.
Hutcheson opened the scoring for Queen's midway through the first period with a shot from the point that found the back of the net through traffic.
First-year forward
Michael Renwick (Mississauga, Ont.) doubled Queen's lead early in the second period with a power play goal assisted by
Derek Hamilton (Kingston, Ont.) and
Cameron Tolnai (Oakville, Ont.).
Hayden Fowler (Kingston, Ont.) increased Queen's lead to three-goals late in the second period.
After the Ridgebacks got on the board early in the third period, the Gaels would score four unanswered goals the rest of the way, with Hutcheson netting three of them.
Holden Katzalay (West Vancouver, B.C.) also scored for Queen's in the third.
Hamilton finished the game with three assists while
Owen Lalonde (Windsor, Ont.) recorded two assists in the win.
Aidan Spooner (Maple, Ont.) had a strong debut for the Gaels, with the first-year goalie recording 55 saves for the win.
With the victory, Queen's opened the season with a 1-0 record. The Gaels will close out their season-opening weekend Friday in North York, Ont, taking on the York Lions.
