KINGSTON, Ont. (Oct. 30, 2023) – Abby Lee and Darien Newell have been named the Queen's University Student-Athletes of the Week for their performances with Queen's Women's Lacrosse and Queen's Men's Football respectively over the weekend.

Lee (Whitby, Ont.) helped Queen's Women's Lacrosse capture the silver medal at the OUA Lacrosse Championship at Tindall Field this past weekend.

Lee recorded four goals and five assists over four games of action on the weekend, helping the Gaels finish the round robin with wins over the Laurier Golden Hawks and Ontario Tech Ridgebacks for a perfect 2-0 record, and a semifinal win over the Trent Excalibur before ultimately getting edged by the Western Mustangs in the gold medal game.

Lee was named an OUA All-Star and the OUA's Most Valuable Offensive Player for the year at the tournament.

Newell (Brampton, Ont.) helped Queen's Football advance to the OUA semifinals with a big 15-10 win over the Ottawa Gee-Gees in their quarterfinal matchup Saturday afternoon at Richardson Stadium.

Newell was a force along the defensive line all game long and finished with two tackles, including a sack for a safety late in the contest that helped seal the victory for Queen's.

Newell and Queen's Football will travel to London, Ont. next weekend, to take on the Mustangs on Saturday, Nov. 4 at 1 p.m. with a spot in the Yates Cup on the line.
