Gaels win sixth in a row with comeback win over Laurentian

Pablo Hempelmann-Perez and Matthew Ciavarro scored to lead Queen's Men's Soccer past the Laurentian Voyageurs 2-1 Saturday afternoon in Sudbury, Ont.

The win, the Gaels' sixth in a row, improved Queen's record to 6-3-2 on the season. Queen's sits fourth in the OUA East standings with 20 points.

After the Voyageurs opened the scoring in the 11th minute, Hempelmann-Perez (Toronto, Ont.) tied the game for Queen's in the 29th minute, on a goal assisted by Lucas Booth (North Vancouver, B.C.).

Ciavarro (Cambridge, Ont.) gave the Gaels the lead just one minute later, and after a scoreless second half, Queen's held on for the one-goal win.

Hempelmann-Perez and Ciavarro are tied for second in the OUA with 10 goals each, while Hempelmann-Perez leads the conference with 16 points, and Ciavarro is second with 14 points.

Queen's out-shot Laurentian, finishing with 18 shots and nine on goal, compared to nine shots with two on goal for Laurentian. Manuel Dirube (Oakville, Ont.) recorded the win for Queen's.

The Gaels will close out their regular season Sunday against the Nipissing Lakers in North Bay, Ont.
