Queen's Men's Hockey fell short in a high-scoring game in Guelph, Ont. Saturday night, falling 7-6 to the Gryphons.
It was a back-and-forth contest all night, with Queen's leading 3-0 after the first period before the Gryphons scored four straight goals to take a 4-3 lead.
After the Gaels evened the score at 4, Guelph would go on another offensive run, finding the back of the net three times for a 7-4 lead.
Queen's late comeback attempt fell just short, with the Gaels scoring two goals to cut Guelph's lead to one, but the Gryphons held on for the 7-6 win.
Alex Robert (Ottawa, Ont.) and
Nolan Hutcheson (Kingston, Ont.) led Queen's offensive effort with two goals each. Robert also recorded two assists while Hutcheson added one helper in the loss.
Derek Hamilton (Kingston, Ont.) and
Jonathan Yantsis (Markham, Ont.) also scored for the Gaels Saturday.
Queen's out-shot Guelph 41-33 with
Anthony Popovich (Belleville, Ont.) and
Aidan Spooner (Maple. Ont.) sharing duties in net for the Gaels.
With the loss, Queen's record falls to 4-2-0 on the season. The Gaels will return to the ice next weekend, hosting the UQTR Patriotes on Friday, Oct. 27 and the TMU Bold on Saturday, Oct. 28.
