Strickler nets hat trick in Gaels big win over Trent

KINGSTON, Ont. (Oct. 14, 2023) - Mattson Strickler scored three goals and added an assist as Queen's Women's Soccer ran past the Trent Excalibur, 6-0 Saturday afternoon at Richardson Stadium.

With the three goals, Strickler (Ottawa, Ont.) now leads the Gaels and is tied for second in the OUA with 10 goals on the season. Strickler also has 16 points through 10 games this season, also good for second in the conference.

Queen's opened the scoring in the 17th minute on a goal by Vita Naihin (Markham, Ont.), assisted by Stricker. 

Strickler then scored two goals in under a minute, striking for a brace in the 20th minute with assists going to Vita Naihin and Sofia Naufal (Ottawa, Ont.).

Leda Naihin (Markham, Ont.) increased the Gaels' lead to 4-0 with a goal in the 39th minute, assisted by Seema Sakran (Ottawa, Ont.) and Strickler would strike once more in the first half to give Queen's a five-goal half time lead.

Sophie Miranda (Cobble Hill, B.C.) netted the lone goal in the second half in the Gaels' big 6-0 win.

Sakran, who also assisted on Strickler's third goal, finished the game with two points.

Queen's held Trent to just one shot, and no shots on goal, with Kirstin Tynan (North Vancouver, B.C.) picking up the clean sheet.

With the win, Queen's improved their record to 9-0-1 on the season, and remain atop the OUA East standings with 28 points, three ahead of the Ottawa Gee-Gees (8-0-1), who have played one less game.

The Gaels will close out their regular season schedule on the road next weekend, visiting the Laurentian Voyageurs on Saturday, Oct. 21 and the Nipissing Lakers on Sunday, Oct. 22.
