KINGSTON, Ont. (Jan. 21, 2023) - Queen's Men's Hockey had a big win against the Nippissing Lakers, ending in a 7-2 score for the Gaels.
The game began with a goal from the Lakers just after the first half of the period. Before Queen's could come back, the Lakers scored a second goal with just 6.5 seconds left in the first period.
The second period was eventful, full of penalties, broken sticks, and goals from Queen's. Seven minutes into the second period,
Nolan Hutcheson put one in the back of the net, assisted by
Alex Robert and
Holden Katzalay. Then, thirteen minutes later, Hutcheson scored his second of the night during a power play, assisted by both
Ryan Cranford and
Hayden Fowler. With just over a minute left in the second period,
Lucas Peric put up a third goal for Queen's, assisted by J.C Thievierge and Hutcheson.
The third period also started with a bang, as the Gaels put up a fourth goal on the board, scored by
Josh Curtis and assisted by Fowler and
Jack Duff. Only two minutes later, Cranford scored a goal with assists from
Duncan Campbell and
Matthew Hotchkiss. A few minutes later after that, Fowler scored one on the power play, assisted by Curtis and Campbell. With two minutes left in the game, Robert scored the seventh goal, assisted by Katzalay and Hutcheson.
Both Hutcheson and Fowler led the way offensively for Queen's, Hutcheson finishing with two goals and two assists for a four-point performance, and Fowler with one goal and two assists for a three-point performance.
Luke Richardson finished with 17 saves for the win.
After the win, the Gaels' overall standing rises to 10-9-2, and remain in seventh place in the OUA East Standings.
Queen's will return to the ice Wednesday, Jan. 25 at 7 p.m., taking on the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks in Oshawa, Ont.
