Queen's Men's Basketball defeated the Algoma Thunderbirds 96-54 Saturday night in Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.
The Gaels jumped out of the gate fast with 31 points in the first quarter and took an 18-point lead into the second quarter. The team wouldn't look back, outscoring the Thunderbirds by 15 points in the third quarter and nine points in the fourth quarter on their way to the 42-point win.
Five Queen's players scored in double digits in the win, led by
Luka Syllas and his game-high 22 points.
Connor Kelly finished the game with 11 points while Michael Kelvin.
Scott Jenkins, and
Ryan Heim each added 10 points in the win.Â
Cole Syllas also had a strong game for the Gaels, finishing just one point shy of a double-double with nine points and a game-high 11 rebounds.
Queen's shot the ball well all game long, finishing 45 per cent from the floor and 41 per cent from three-point range, while holding their opponents to 31 per cent from the floor and 29 per cent from beyond the arc.
With the win, the Gaels improved their record to 11-1 on the season and remain atop the OUA East standings. Queen's will return home to take on the Windsor Lancers on Friday, Jan. 20 at 8 p.m. and the Western Mustangs on Saturday, Jan. 21 at 8 p.m. in a weekend doubleheader.
