Julia Chadwick and
Sophie de Goede led Queen's Women's Basketball past the York Lions 48-47 Saturday at the ARC to split their weekend doubleheader.
The Gaels held a 16-point lead heading into the fourth quarter before the Lions staged a late comeback, but Queen's managed to hold on for a one-point win.
Chadwick (Ottawa, Ont.) led the Gaels with 13 points and eight rebounds and de Goede (Victoria, B.C.) added nine points and 12 rebounds.
Emma Weltz (Timmins, Ont.) recorded eight points in the winning effort for Queen's.
Queen's finished the game shooting 20-65 (30.8 per cent) from the floor and 2-18 (11.1 per cent) from three-point range, compared to 19-64 (29.7 per cent) from the floor and 3-11 (27.3 per cent) from three-point range for York.
With the win, the Gaels improved their record to 8-4 an sit in fourth place in the OUA East Division standings. The Lions fell to 8-6 with the loss.
The Gaels will close out their regular season next weekend with a home-and-home series against the Carleton Ravens. Queen's will host Carleton Friday at 5:30 p.m. at the ARC before travelling to Ottawa, Ont. to take on the Ravens Saturday at 6 p.m.
