KINGSTON, Ont. (March 4, 2022) - Queen's Women's Basketball dropped the first game of their weekend doubleheader against the York Lions, 82-72, Friday at the ARC.
The two teams were even through most of the first half before the Lions went on a 7-2 run to end the second quarter and take a 40-35 lead into half time. York pulled away in the third quarter before the Gaels clawed back the deficit, but it wasn't enough as the Lions held on for a 10-point win.
Sophie de Goede (Victoria, B.C.) led Queen's with 22 points and 16 rebounds while
Julia Chadwick (Ottawa, Ont.) fell one rebound shy of a double double, finishing with 15 points and nine rebounds.
Emma Weltz (Timmins, Ont.) also finished in double digits in scoring, recording 12 points in the loss.
The Gaels were out-shot by York, finishing 25-64 (39.1 per cent) from the floor and 5-21 (23.8 per cent) from three-point range, compared to 31-66 (47 per cent) from the floor and 5-17 (29.4 per cent) from three-point range.
The loss snapped Queen's three-game win streak and moved their record to 7-4 on the season. York improved to 8-5 with the win.
The Gaels and Lions will close out their doubleheader Saturday at 12 p.m. at the ARC.
