KINGSTON, Ont. (March 12, 2022) - Queen's Men's Hockey scored three goals in the third period for a 4-3 win over the Nipissing Lakers Saturday at the Memorial Centre. The win in their regular season finale gave the Gaels the weekend sweep over the Lakers and improved their record to 17-1-1. Queen's will enter the OUA Playoffs as the top seed in the OUA East Division.
After
Ryan Cranford (Embrun, Ont.) opened the scoring three minutes into the game on a goal assisted by
Liam Dunda (Grimsby, Ont.), the Lakers evened the score before the first period was out and scored two more in the second period to take a two-goal lead into the final frame.
Jonathan Yantsis (Markham, Ont.) on the power play,
Ben Fanjoy (Ottawa, Ont.), and
Alex Robert (Ottawa, Ont.) scored unanswered goals for the Gaels in the third period to give Queen's the come-from-behind win.
Jacob Brahaney (Hastings, Ont.),
Owen Lalonde (Windsor, Ont.),
Thomas Stevenson (Ottawa, Ont.), and
Josh Curtis (Winnipeg, Man.) recorded assists for the Gaels in the third period.
Queen's out-shot Nipissing 43-31 with
Anthony Popovich (Belleville, Ont.) making 28 saves to record the win.
The Gaels will return to the ice for the OUA Playoffs on Wednesday. As the top seed, Queen's will host the McGill Redbirds Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at the Memorial Centre.
