After a high-scoring back-and-forth affair, Queen's Men's Hockey edged the Nipissing Lakers 5-4 in a shootout to snap the Lakers' four-game winning streak and extend their own winning streak to three games.
With the win, the Gaels improved their record to 11-1-1 on the season and increased their lead in the OUA East Division to eight points. Nipissing's record fell to 7-5-1 with the loss. The Lakers are tied for second in the OUA East with the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks.
Jonathan Yantsis (Markham, Ont.) led the way for Queen's with a goal and two assists in the win. Yantsis leads the OUA in scoring with 23 points (five goals, 18 assists) through 13 games.
Will Sirman (Aurora, Ont.),
Ryan Cranford (Embrun, Ont.), and
Hayden Fowler (Kingston, Ont.) also scored for the Gaels.
Josh Curtis (Winnipeg, Man.) recorded two assists while
Matthew Hotchkiss (Courtice, Ont.),
Holden Katzalay (West Vancouver, B.C.),
Alex Robert (Ottawa, Ont.), and
Owen Lalonde (Windsor, Ont.) added one each.
Luke Richardson (Barrie, Ont.) recorded 30 saves in the win for Queen's.
The Gaels return to the ice next weekend for a home-and-home series with the RMC Paladins. Queen's will visit RMC Friday at 7 p.m. at Constantine Arena before hosting the Paladins Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at Memorial Centre.
