Queen's Women's Hockey return to action with loss to Nipissing

Queen's Women's Hockey team opened the second half of their regular season with a 6-2 loss to the Nipissing Lakers Friday night in North Bay, Ont.

The loss drops the Gaels' record to 2-5 on the season. The Lakers improved to 6-1 with the win.

The Lakers got out to a fast start, scoring four goals in the first period. Marilyn Fortin, Katelyn Heppner, Maria Dominico, and Malory Dominico scored for Nipissing.

The Gaels would get on the scoreboard early in the second period when Nicole Posesorski (Toronto, Ont.) found the back of the net on a goal assisted by Robin Ketcheson (Toronto, Ont.).

Nipissing would restore their four-goal lead before the end of the second period with a Katie Cuomiak goal and add their sixth goal of the night early in the third, with Heppner's second of the night.

Brooklyn Bastarache (Courtice, Ont.) would net Queen's second goal of the game late in the third period on the power play, assisted by Scout Watkins Southward (Kingston, Ont.) and Emma McKnight (Dorchester, Ont.).

The Gaels were outshot 41-18 with Queen's goalie Makenzy Arsenault (Whitby, Ont.) finishing the game with 35 saves.

The two teams meet again Saturday at 2:30 p.m. in North Bay.
