Queen's Women's Hockey edge Nipissing in overtime for second straight win

KINGSTON, Ont. (Nov. 26, 2022) - Queen's Women's Hockey defeated the Nipissing Lakers 5-4 in overtime at the Memorial Centre Saturday night.
 
It was a busy night at both ends of the rink with a total of nine goals being scored. The Gaels opened up scoring late in the first period with a goal from Sarah Campbell, assisted by Kelsey Dunn.
 
Nipissing returned by scoring early in the second period with a short-handed goal in the third minute. Dunn quickly put Queen's back in the lead, scoring under a minute after the Lakers with a power play goal. Rebecca Thompson and Scout Watkins-Southward both had goals of their own to put Queen's ahead 4-1. The Lakers were able to get one more in before intermission to head into the second intermission 4-2.
 
Nipissing was able to put two more behind the goalie to tie the game and head into overtime. Alyson Reeves got the game winner 42 seconds into overtime to give Queen's the win.
 
Thompson led the Gaels in points with a goal and two assists. Dunn, Campbell and Watkins-Southward all had a goal and assist each.
 
Vanessa Campeau made a total of 32 saves on the night.
 
Queen's returned to the complete the double header against the Nipissing Lakers at the Memorial Centre at 2:30 p.m.
