KINGSTON, Ont. (Oct. 7, 2022) - Lizzie Gibson had another outstanding performance as Queen's Women's Rugby capped their undefeated regular season with a 125-0 win over the Trent Excalibur Friday night at Nixon Field.
Gibson (Caledon, Ont.) finished the game with four tries and 15 conversions for 50 points. With the 50-point performance against Trent, Gibson now sits second on Queen's Women's Rugby's All-Time Scoring list with 218 career regular season points, just one behind
Lauren McEwen's 219 points. Last season's U SPORTS Women's Rugby Player of the Year
Sophie de Goede, who is currently captaining Team Canada at the Women's Rugby World Cup, is third on the list with 208 points.
Maddy Kushner (Ottawa, Ont.) and Maddy Donnelly (Little Britain, Ont.) added three tries each for the Gaels in the big win while
Carmen Izyk (Blackie, Alta.) scored two tries.
Emily Butterworth (Toronto, Ont.),
Izzy Page (Markham, Ont.),
Mika Matsukubo (Ottawa, Ont.), Maddy May (Tofino, B.C.), Maxie Grant (Halifax, N.S.), Jess Hynes (Kingston, Ont.), and Ally Rupar (Ottawa, Ont.) rounded out the scoring for Queen's in the win.
With the win, the Gaels finished the regular season atop the OUA standings with a 6-0 record. Trent's record fell to 2-4 with the loss.
Queen's will enter the OUA playoffs as the top seed.
