Queen's Women's Cross Country won the Capital XC Challenge in Ottawa, Ont. this past Saturday, while the Men's team finished second.

Queen's Women's team finished with 24 points, 31 points ahead of McGill, who finished second, and 41 points ahead of Ottawa, who finished third. The Women's race was a three-way battle up front that was not decided until late in the race.

Manon Plouvier (Vancouver, B.C.) was the Gaels' top finisher, coming in third place to finish on the podium in the 6km race. Plouvier crossed the line with a time of 22:37.38.

Emma Graham (Toronto, Ont.) was Queen's second top finisher, coming in fourth with a time of 22:51.10 and Ella Lane was the Gaels' third top finisher, coming in sixth with a time of 23:21.05.

Elizabeth Vroom (Ottawa, Ont.) also finished in the top 10, crossing the line in eighth with a time of 23:22.79.

The depth of the Women's side at Queen's has improved dramatically over the past year.

On the Men's side, the Gaels had two runners finish on the podium in the 6km race, with Jude Wheeler-Dee (Kingston, Ont.) coming in second with a time of 18:44.59 and Roman Mironov (Toronto, Ont.) coming in third with a time of 19:05.37. The Men's race was also a three-way battle up front with both Wheeler-Dee and Mironov battling with McGill's Matt Beaudet, who finished last season as a U SPORTS All Canadian and Rookie of the Year.

Miles Brackenbury (Kingston, Ont.) was the Gaels' third top finisher, coming in seventh overall with a time of 19:27.53. Dan Coolican (Kingston, Ont.) also finished in the Top 10 for Queen's, finishing 10th with a time of 19:32.42.

The Men's side finished with 33 points, just one point behind McGill, who finished with 32, for top spot. Ottawa finished in third place at 76 points.

Queen's Cross Country is back in action in two weeks, competing in the McMaster Bayfront Open in Hamilton, Ont. on Oct. 14.
