Queen's Women's Soccer blanks Trent to move to second in OUA East

Cecilia Way scored two goals and Jenna Matsukubo added one goal and two assists as Queen's Women's Soccer defeated the Trent Excalibur 5-0 Saturday afternoon in Peterborough, Ont.

With the win, the Gaels' record improved to 7-0-3 on the season. 

Mattie Strickler (Ottawa, Ont.) opened the scoring for Queen's in the second minute and the team wouldn't look back. Way (Victoria. B.C.) doubled the Gaels lead in the 11th minute with her first of the game, assisted by Matsukubo. Way opened the second half with her eighth goal of the season in the 48th minute. 

Sophie Miranda (Cobble Hill, B.C.) made it 4-0 for Queen's in the 59th minute on a goal assisted by Matsukubo before Matsukubo (Ottawa, Ont.) netted her fifth goal of the season in the 65th minute for give the Gaels the five-goal win.

Queen's outshot the Excalibur 17-3 with nine shots on goal to one for Trent. Kirsten Tynan (North Vancouver, B.C.) made one save to record her fourth clean sheet of the season.

The Gaels return to action next weekend, hosting the TMU Bold Friday, Oct. 21 and the Laurentian Voyageurs Saturday. Oct. 22 to close out their regular season.
