Queen's Football to host Yates Cup after big win over Ottawa in OUA East Final

The Queen's Gaels are headed to the Yates Cup.

Queen's Football will host the Yates Cup next Saturday at Richardson Stadium after defeating the Ottawa Gee-Gees 32-15 in the OUA East Final at Richardson Stadium on Saturday.

Queen's held a narrow 7-3 lead with the Gee-Gees driving down the field at the end of the first half, before two big plays swung the momentum in Queen's favour. Ashton Miller-Melancon (Montreal, Que.) came up with a highlight reel interception deep in the Gaels' end and returned it to midfield. On the next play, the last play of the half, quarterback James Keenan (Ottawa, Ont.) found Josh MacLeod for a 48-yard touchdown pass to give Queen's a 14-3 lead at half time.

It was one of two highlight reel grabs for MacLeod (Brampton, Ont.) on Saturday, who hauled in a near identical touchdown pass from Keenan in the third quarter, this one for 33-yards, to increase the Gaels' lead to 21-6.

MacLeod finished the game with three receptions for a game-high 93 yards while Keenan finished the game 11-21 for 187 yards and two touchdowns.

Rasheed Tucker (Ajax, Ont.) also had a huge game for the Gaels on offence, finishing with 28 carries for 187 yards and two touchdowns.

On defence, Miller-Melancon had a standout performance. Along with his interception, his sixth of the season through eight games (regular season and playoffs), he recorded 11 tackles and one pass break-up.

Walter Karabin (King City, Ont.) also had a big game on defence, finishing with 10 tackles and a sack.

Queen's will host the Western Mustangs in the Yates Cup on Saturday, Nov. 20 at 1 p.m. at Richardson Stadium. Tickets for the Yates Cup go on sale Sunday, Nov. 14 at 8 a.m. and can be purchased here.
