Gaels season comes to an end after falling to Lakers in OT

North Bay, Ont. (February 21st, 2020) – The Queen's Gaels (0-2) third period comeback forced overtime but the No.8 Nipissing Lakers scored late in the first OT period to take the game and series win over Queen's.

GAME FLOW
Coming into game two of the OUA quarter-finals, the Gaels had previously fallen to the Nipissing Lakers 4-1 Wednesday night and needed a win Friday night in North Bay to force a game three.

A power play goal tipped by 12:55 into the first period scored by Brianna Gaffney gave Nipissing their first lead of the night over Queen's.

Early in the second, back-to-back Lakers penalties gave the Gaels a 5 on 3 power play, but Queen's could not connect.

After 40, the Gaels held the Lakers lead to just one as the 3rd began with Queen's down 1-0. Shots were nearly even with 17 for Nipissing and 16 for the Gaels.

At 6:27 into the third, Hailey Wilson scored her first of the playoffs to tie things up at 1-1.

The Gaels responded to their first goal of the night with their first lead of the night. Robin Ketcheson scored her second of the playoffs 9:21 into the second period.

Late in the third with the Gaels in the lead, the Lakers began pressuring Gaels goaltender Makenzy Arsenault more with less than two minutes to go. Most shots ended up being saved with Nipissing's Katelyn Heppner's shot hitting the back of the net to send game two into overtime.

Both teams battled in the other team's end with several close calls. A Lakers power play paved the way for Maggie McKee to score with less than three minutes left in OT to send Nipissing through to the next round and end the Gaels season.
