Rookie Alabi has 11 points as Gaels down Lions 81-63

TORONTO (February 14, 2020) - The Queen's Men's Basketball team (14-7) defeated the York Lions (3-19) with a score of 81-63 on Friday night.

GAME FLOW
The Gaels started the game strong, with a 10 point run in the first few minutes. Queen's had 14 total rebounds in the quarter, which kept the Lions to just 13 points in the frame. Moving into the second quarter the Gaels led the Lions 19-13.

Nikolay Alabi started the quarter for Queen's, coming off of the bench to score two of his 11 points on the night. The Gaels extended their lead in the second quarter, building off of the offensive success they had in the first quarter taking a 37-28 lead over the Lions into the half. The Gaels were led in the quarter by both Harry Range and Alabi with four points each.

Queen's continued to hold a steady advantage in the third quarter but were unable to pull away and put the game fully out of reach as the Lions brought themselves within eight points of the lead in the first three minutes of the second half. The Gaels felt the pressure and responded with an 11 point streak. Moving into the fourth Queen's held a commanding 60-41 lead.

The fourth quarter saw York push back but ultimately, it was the Gaels superior ability to stay patient on offence and wait for opportunities which led them to an 81-63 victory. The Gaels shot 45% from the field compared to the Lions 32%. Quinton Gray led the way for the Gaels with 19 points and DeAndrae Pierre led the Lions with 23 points.
