THUNDER BAY, Ont. (February 15, 2020) - The Queen's Men's Basketball team (14-8) fell to the No.8 nationally-ranked Lakehead Thunderwolves (17-5) with a score of 114-76 on Saturday night. Â Â
GAME FLOW
The game got off to a quick start as the Thunderwolves Chume Nwigwe dropped a triple off of the first play. The Gaels were able to keep things close early on but with missed opportunities and turnovers that resulted in Thunderwolve points, Queen's trailed Lakehead 28-16 moving into the second frame.Â
Early in the second, the Thunderwolves managed to extend their lead to 18 points over the Gaels before
Bruno Chan dropped a triple that attributed to his seven points on the night. Queen's kept things closer throughout the remainder of the frame as they went on a seven-point run. This was not enough to gain the lead and the Thunderwolves went on a late quarter run to finish the first half with a 57-41 lead.Â
Leading the way for the Gaels in the first half was
Harry Range with eight points and three rebounds, while Isaiah Traylor led Lakehead with 25 points and two steals. The Gaels were 38.5% from the field in the first half while the Thunderbirds shooting accuracy was reflected as they shot 48.8% from the field.Â
The Thunderbirds cruised through the second half as they further extended their lead and finished the game with a 114-76 victory over the Gaels. This was their 17th win of their season as they move into the playoffs. Lakehead scored 25 points off of Gael turnovers and their bench unit found 37 points to contribute to their win.Â
