Holmberg gets win 200, Johnston scores twice as Gaels keep playoff hopes alive with 3-1 win at Laurier

WATERLOO, Ont. (February 1, 2020) - The Queen's Gaels (8-9-3-1) defeated the Laurier Golden Hawks (1-12-3-6) 3-1 on Saturday afternoon to pick up three points as they keep their playoff hopes alive.

HOLMBERG 200 GAME FLOW
The opening period saw both teams head to the penalty box in the early stages, Queen's was penalized three times in the frame while Laurier was once. After each team killed off penalties in the opening five minutes, it was Laurier that struck first to open the scoring as Emily Woodhouse gave the Golden Hawks a 1-0 lead.

Queen's was quick to respond as just 28 seconds later Quinn Johnston deflected a Nicole Posesorski shot from the point past Laurier netminder Cohen Myers to even the score.

The second period saw additional special teams play as there were a total of five power-play chances between the two sides but the score remained 1-1 after 40 minutes.

In the third Posesorski was quick to break the tie. After the Gaels came close on a few chances on goal the puck found its way back to the point and Posesorski fired a shot that fooled Myers to put Queen's ahead 2-1.

Late in the period, Johnston sealed the victory with an empty netter to make it 3-1 for Queen's.
