Gaels pick up a point in OT loss to Ridgebacks as playoff positioning tightens

KINGSTON, Ont. (January 31st, 2019) – The Queen's Gaels (11-11-3) picked up a point but fell behind another in an overtime loss to the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks (12-11-3) on Friday night. The Ridgebacks move to two points ahead of Queen's in the OUA standings in a tie for fifth place. Queen's remains in seventh.

GAME FLOW

Following their win against RMC on January 25th and with just four games remaining in the season, which will all be played at home, two more crucial points would be on the line Friday night as the Gaels needed to keep their streak going before the OUA playoffs begin in less than a month.

Ontario Tech would score in the first putting the Gaels down 1-0 at the end of the first period.

The second period saw Gaels Patrick Sanvido scoring his third of the year for the Gaels and tying the game at one. Sanvido floated a point shot in on net and it found it's way past the Ridgeback netminder.

On a Ontario Tech power play, Jared Bethune gave the Gaels the lead 2-1 and would also tie Bethune with most goals on Queen's team with eight halfway through the second.

Ryan Cranford followed by scoring his seventh putting the Gaels up 3-1, however the Ridgebacks would answer with a goal of their own to put the game at a tight 3-2 going into the final period.

On a powerplay in the third, the Ridgebacks would tie things up at 3-3 with minutes remaining.

Back-to-back Friday's would see the Gaels play in a fourth period with Ontario Tech's Austin Eastman winning it for the Ridgebacks 4-3 in overtime.

Queen's still walks away with a crucial point as they suit up again tomorrow night.
