OTTAWA, Ont. (January 17, 2020) - The Queen's Men's Basketball team (8-5) fell to the No. 5 nationally-ranked Ottawa Gee-Gees (11-3) with a score of 97-79 on Friday night at Montpetit Hall in Ottawa.
GAME FLOW
The game opened with both the Gaels and the Gee-Gees going back and forth for points until Ottawa was able to go on an eight point, unanswered run. Queen's
Harry Range was able to keep the Gaels within fighting distance as he scored four of his 22 points on the night. The Gee-Gees showcased their accuracy as they shot eleven 3-point shots in the first quarter.
Cameron Bett led the Gaels in the first quarter with five points off of two shots. The Gaels continued to keep themselves within 14 points of Ottawa, with a score of 30-16 moving into the second frame.
The second quarter saw the Gaels offensive intensity as they went point for point with the Gee-Gees. Midway through Ottawa was able to break away from Queen's which had them with a 16 point lead. Moving into the half, the score was 54-41 for Ottawa.
The second half began with multiple turnovers from both teams which proved to be the cause for a low scoring quarter on both sides. The Gaels brought themselves within nine points of the Gee-Gees in the middle of the quarter but after Sean Stoqua hit a crucial 3-point shot, Ottawa once again extended their lead. Queen's held the Gee-Gee's to just 18 points in the third quarter, highlighting a strong defensive effort. Moving into the final frame the score was 72-58 for Ottawa.
The Gaels were never able to recover in the fourth and final quarter, as the Gee-Gee's gradually put the game out of reach outscoring the Gaels 25-21 in the frame and defeating Gaels with a final score of 97-79. The Gaels were led statistically by
Harry Range with 22 points and five rebounds. The Gee-Gees were led by Guillaume Pepin with 21 points and Gage Sebean with eight rebounds.
