Kingston Ont. (January 12, 2020)- The Queen's Gaels (7-3) won in straight sets on their home court for the first time this year against the RMC Paladins (1-8) in OUA women's volleyball action.
GAME FLOW
The Gaels showed well in the first set both offensively and defensively. Outside hitter
Arielle Palermo met RMC with strong strikes from the outside putting down numerous kills that RMC could not defend.
Saffron van der Linde set the tone with an early ace in the first and eventually the Gaels made quick work of the first set 25-13.
Queen's faced challenges in the second set. The Paladins rebutted their slow first set with energetic offence in the second. The Gaels fought against RMC's strong blocking and serves to hold onto their lead taking the set 25-17 in a closer matchup throughout. Palermo continued to show her strong attacks coupled with timely blocking from
Lauryn Colpitts.
The Gaels met another long set in the third. Long rallies characterized the set; however strategic defence from outside hitter
Julia Wiercigroch, who completed a match total of 15 digs, opened up the space the Gaels needed to take the set 25-20. Queen's took home the match in straight sets 3-0.
